re.commend: The (REAL!) Urban Decay Naked 2 palette

WARNING - Naked 2 fakes!
In the run up to Christmas, if you are thinking of treating someone special to that Naked 2 palette that they've had their eye on, please read this post first!

It's tempting to turn to Ebay for the little things in life, like nail sequins, glitter, perfumery goodies (my latest fad) and even cosmetics samples. However, there are a number of sellers on Ebay who are offering fake Naked 2 palettes, and it can be easy to fall for them. They look pretty much spot on! They also come with a dual ended brush that isn't bad quality at all. The explanation given from the sellers is that they are 'factory seconds' that have been slightly damaged during manufacture and so are selling at a lower price.
Things to remember when spotting a fake/remarks:

1. The genuine Naked 2 always comes with a lipgloss sample, is packaged inside a cardboard holder with a clear plastic outer casing.

2. The fake Naked 2 is considerably lighter than the genuine one and whilst I appreciate that you won't necessarily be able to compare, I would suggest asking a friend or go into a store to pick up a real one and compare it to one that you've bought.

3. The colours in the fake are actually pretty good pigmentation-wise...but are nowhere near the quality of the urban decay ones. In particular 'Half Baked' and 'Blackout' are noticeably less pigmented.

4. Some of the colours are different, leaning slightly more purple than the originals or slightly less golden in other cases.

5. The mirror on the genuine Naked 2 is perfect with no warping or crazy-mirror effects.

6. The dual ended brush in the original is longer and the blending brush is more bendy (I almost prefer the fake because of this... :s)

7. The names on the original fit perfectly underneath the pans with no overrun and they are a bright golden colour.

Looking at the pictures and swatches below, you can see that they are very similar in many respects. I don't support the production of fake goods, but I can see that the fake palette is perfectly usable and the colours are pretty. It could really be enjoyed despite it not being genuine.

I don't really want to get in the middle of a debate on fakes and affordability, but I would say that the colours that I would really recommend buying the genuine version for are Half Baked (a true gold), YDK (pink-taupe-grey-shimmer) and Blackout (black black black) that are simply not matched by a mile in the fake one.

Pictures: Fake on top and left, genuine on bottom and right
Swatches: Real on top (you can tell by the black!)
